The workshop is designed to be delivered to the whole Year 10 cohort. It breaks down a range of issues surrounding earning, saving and spending. From their first job to their first car, students are given the essentials of personal financial management in a learning experience that speaks directly to their needs and wants.

Several concepts are covered, including:

• your first job
• differences between full-time, part-time and casual work
• hours, sick and holiday leave, pay
• employee rights and responsibilities
• award wages
• tax and Australia’s progressive tax system
• tax file number and lodging tax returns

• checking your pay slip
• the value of saving
